Dispatches From the Front

The messages on these tiles isolate issues that are in the news, in popular culture, in the air. I hope that reduction of concepts to simple words and phrases without judgment can prompt deeper consideration and discussion of their place in American life. Many topics are current, some are from the past and my childhood. Each ceramic tile is made by hand and finished with a glaze that supports the message. “Dispatches” are a form of contemporary journalism, but the medium of fired clay gives the messages more permanence, like the remnants of lost cultures and empires.
